The state of Connecticut is requiring businesses whose tax liability exceeds $10,000 to remit their tax returns and payments electronically, beginning with returns and payments due March 31, 2005. Since July 1, 2003, the state of Connecticut has been transitioning toward electronic filing as businesses become more electronically savvy and comfortable. Connecticut has already mandated e-filing for businesses with larger tax liabilities and this latest mandate affects 15,000 Connecticut businesses, according to the Connecticut Department of Revenue. In all, more than 30,000 sales and use tax filers are now required to file and pay their taxes electronically. The Connecticut Department of Revenue approved Trustfile for e-filings and businesses can order a free one-year subscription at www.trustfile.com. Trustfile currently processes approximately $8 billion in business taxes annually and is approved for use in ten other states, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. Connecticut businesses received notification from the state in mid-December of the electronic mandate. “Trustfile eases the learning curve for those businesses that have never filed their sales and use taxes electronically,” said King Woolf, Trustfile’s President and Chief Operating Officer. “Our software is simple to use and offers important safeguards for confidential data that might not otherwise be protected by transmitting returns over the web. Trustfile technical support is only a phone call away for those who may need it.” The software may be used by any business - large or small – that is required to file state sales and use taxes in Connecticut and offers key benefits: Ease – Helpful wizards walk users through the process, step by step. Trustfile imports the data from the user’s own systems, saving time and protecting confidentiality. In addition, preparers can print out a copy of their return for review before actually e-filing. Confidence in safe, secure e-filing - Trustfile allows businesses to prepare and retain their data securely on their own systems and transmit only their encrypted return information over the internet. That protects the privacy of the data and Trustfile archives the information within the user’s own system for easy reference, planning or audit purposes. Prompt Technical Support – Trustfile’s help desk of qualified personnel is just a phone call away, and is offered free of charge to all Trustfile users. Multiple state filings –In addition to Connecticut, Trustfile is approved for e-filings in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland- filers can use one consistent interface to file for all four states with free Trustfile software.
